For my final photo essay, I chose to concentrate my photographs on three things: books, records, and cameras. I selected these because music, books, and taking photographs are three of the most important things in my life. For years I have found comfort in each one of the items portrayed in the photos that I took. They all mean something special to me, so I chose to concentrate on them for my photo essay. By taking these photos, I hoped to communicate with people that things like art, music, and literature are things that you will always be able to turn to. They can allow you to either express your feelings or escape from them. I believe that each of my photos captures the story of the "essay." In some of my photos, I positioned the model masked behind these records and cameras. I did this intentionally to symbolise her looking through a different lens. With music and art (cameras in specific) you can see the world through a different lens (literally!) These things are an escape from everyday life, and I chose to show her eye or show her looking through the camera to represent that it can help block out distraction and negativity. You can focus on the music and art and use it as an escape from the outside world. I arranged the photos by subject matter: records first, then cameras, then books. They aren't arranged by significance, just by chronological order. I chose to put all of the photos in black and white so you focus on the model more than the colours, which in some cases made the photographs less interesting.
