For this concentration I decided to photograph skin and the contour of the human body via a series of macro shots. Originally, this concentration was to focus on imperfections of skin, but while setting up the lights I noticed that the form of my body helped to cast interesting shadows, making them appear almost abstract at first glance. As I took the photos I moved from left shoulder, across my chest and neck, to my right shoulder, and to my back. I plan on expanding this concentration to other parts of the body, but these 12 are a start.
My most successful work out of the concentrations that I've done so far this year is my skin concentration. I think it's my strongest work because it is pleasing to the eye and takes you a moment to see what it actually is. The light and shadows give the photos an abstract look at first. There is a lot of give the photos an abstract look at first. There is a lot of texture visible in most of the photos as well. I took my time with this concentration which I think is why I feel so confident about it. I took a set of pictures every day, uploaded, and edited and then went back the next day to see what I could improve upon. My weakest work this year, so far, has been my Bourn cemetery concentration. In comparison to my other photos, it is clearly less interesting. Although I incorporated a lot of photos with a shallow depth of field and stuck to this technique, they are just not visually striking. They look like they are just photos of headstones, not pieces of art. Although it was interesting to go to the cemetery, the photos do not convey the same feeling as the environment in which they were taken, which I aim to convey in my photos (like my abandoned and Paul Dever concentrations.
